Once again the Badgers have grabbed another commit for their 2023 recruiting class. Chicago native and three star defensive lineman Jamel Howard announced his commitment to the Badgers. Howard ranks as the 22nd player out of Illinois in the class of 2023 and the 100th ranked defensive lineman in the country. The Marist High School native is the fourth commit out of the state of Illinois for Wisconsin. He is also the sixth commit in the last two weeks for the Badgers. After completion of Wisconsin’s June Official Visit weekends, the Badgers sit comfortably with their 2023 recruiting class. Although Wisconsin is into the summer break, the Badgers first Official Visit weekend is upon us. Official Visit weekends are for potential commits to take in the full campus experience. After receiving their first commit of the 2023 class just over a month ago, the Badgers have now added another. This time in four star and former Appleton native Gus Yalden. Yalden, who currently plays for Asheville School in North Carolina, announced his commitment early Tuesday afternoon. The 6’9 center is the 126th ranked player in the 24/7 composite rankings and the classes 16th ranked center. Yalden had numerous Power Five offers and was down to Charleston, Nebraska, and Rutgers before announcing his commitment to Wisconsin. Battling from start to finish, Wisconsin knew this game would be close. Sure enough the Badgers finished another tight battle. Three seed Wisconsin defeated 14 seed Colgate 67-60 in the first round of the NCAA tournament Friday evening. The Badgers were led by sophomore guard Johnny Davis with 25 points and and eight rebounds. The Wisconsin native went 4-10 from three point range and went 5-5 from the free throw line. Post season play is here and Wisconsin heads into Friday knowing the task at hand. After finishing tied for first in the Big Ten regular season standings, the Badgers claimed the number two seed in the conference tournament. With two consecutive byes, Wisconsin is now set to face off against the seventh seeded Michigan State Spartans. The Spartans defeated ten seed Maryland 76-72 Thursday evening. One win separates Wisconsin and an outright Big Ten title. After defeating Purdue Tuesday evening, the Badgers look to wrap up the season on Sunday with a win. Wisconsin defeated the Boilermakers 70-67 with a late game winner from Chucky Hepburn with 1.5 seconds remaining. The Badgers were led by junior forward Tyler Wahl with 19 points and a season high five steals. Freshman point guard Chucky Hepburn also provided 17 points, 11 of which came in the first half. Wisconsin looks to put their previous loss to Rutgers behind them as they head to New Jersey Saturday evening. After their 73-65 to the Scarlet Knights, the Badgers have been on a roll. Winners of three straight, Wisconsin heads to Jersey Mikes Arena much like Rutgers did in Madison nearly two weeks ago.
