The Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, and Philadelphia Eagles are all teams who figure to be vying for a playoff spot in 2024. The Packers are looking for a higher seed than seventh in 2024, and they have a lot of reasons to be optimistic about that possibility.
However, the 2024 NFL Draft proved that the Lions and Eagles are interested in upgrading some of the same positions as Green Bay. In fact, they are doing whatever it take to make sure the Packers don’t get that upgrade.
The Philadelphia Eagles Snipe Green Bay Packers Prospect One Day After The Detroit Lions Do
On Friday, the Eagles selected Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean in the second round.
On Day 2, DeJean, a first-team All-American and the Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year in 2023, remained on the board despite being widely projected to be selected in the first round. Both of Philadelphia’s second-round draft picks — Nos. 50 and 53 — were traded to the Washington Commanders along with a fifth-round pick for picks 40 and 78.
DeJean was selected with the 40th pick. The Packers had the 41st overall pick.
The Detroit Lions Did Something Similar On Day One Of The 2024 NFL Draft
Terrion Arnold, a cornerback from Alabama, was selected with the 24th overall pick by the Detroit Lions in the 2024 NFL draft. The Lions traded up five spots to get him.
As Arnold walked on stage and held up a new Honolulu Blue No. 1 jersey, home fans cheered for him as he shook hands with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
The Packers picked at #25. While it is still very possible the Green Bay Packers could have gone offensive line with Arnold on the board, two times in two days an NFC rival traded one spot ahead of the Packers to get their guy.
It will be interesting to see if that trend continues on day three.
