The Milwaukee Brewers have dealt with numerous injuries to their starting rotation this year.  Pitcher injuries additionally have been on the rise this year as well with a significant amount of players being lost due to elbow injuries.  Recently it was announced that they will lose one of their key starting rotation members to UCL surgery and he will then have to decide if he wants to continue his career or not.

Injuries to pitchers are on the rise across baseball.

In the new era of baseball at a young age pitchers are currently throwing the ball as hard as they can and for as long as they can.  Increased velocity creates an uptick in exposure and recognition for a lot for a younger athlete who are looking to get a foot in the door at the collegiate level or get scouted to enter the professional realm.  Additionally, at the major league level the game is getting quicker and pitch clock rules have resulted in players getting less rest in between pitches. The down side to all this is that injuries, across all levels of baseball, to the ulnar collateral ligament are on the rise.

Wade Miley of the Milwaukee Brewers reportedly will need UCL repair.

Per Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Adam McCalvy of MLB.com 37 year old Wade Miley will need UCL repair.  A few days ago he flew to Cincinnati to undergo imaging.  He will miss the remainder of the 2024 season and will have to decide next year whether he wants to continue his playing career or not.

Wade Miley has been pitching with elbow pain for the last 4-5 years.

Following the news Wade Miley met with the media and discussed how he had been pitching with pain for the last 4-5 years.  He said that he was weirdly kind of excited because maybe this will allow him to pitch without pain, that he has more left in the tank, and that he wants to end his career on his own terms.
