Green Bay Packers Greatest Player #69- Johnny Holland
Johnny Holland was drafted by the Packers in the second round (41st overall pick) in the 1987 NFL Draft. He went on to play his entire seven-year career with the Packers and helped usher in a new standard for the defense.
An outside linebacker, Holland was a prolific tackler, accumulating over 100 tackles six seasons in a row from 1988 through 1993. In seven seasons, Holland never had an AV under seven, finishing his career with 54.
Following his playing career, Holland joined Mike Holmgren’s coaching staff. He held roles of defensive quality control coach, special teams coach, and linebackers coach. Of course, this means he was on the coaching staff that led Green Bay to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances in 1997 and 1998.
Holland followed Holmgren to Seattle and since has coached with the Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, and Houston Texans. He is currently the linebackers coach for the feared San Francisco 49ers defense.
