Greatest Green Bay Packers Players: #98- Bernardo Harris (Linebacker)

Bernardo Harris might be one of the most influential players in the history of the NFL, but not for any eye-popping stats that he put up over the course of his career. No, Harris could be considered responsible for the reason why the NFL has included video replay during games. While with the Packers, Harris caused San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice to fumble the ball. The ball was recovered by the Packers, but the referees called the play an incomplete pass. Had the fumble been called correctly, Green Bay would have won the game.
After the game, the NFL announced they would institute video replay in the following season.
Of course, Harris did a great deal more than just inspire the use of video replay throughout the NFL. After going undrafted in 1994, he was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs. Unfortunately, he injured his knee in the first week of training camp and missed the entire season.
In 1995, he signed with the Green Bay Packers, which started a seven-year run with the organization. He won Super Bowl XXXI with the team and had three-straight seasons with 100+ tackles between 1997 and 1999. He came up just short of 100 tackles in 2000 and 2001, racking up 97 and 98 tackles respectively in those seasons.
Following the 2001 season, Harris signed with the Baltimore Ravens, with whom he spent one season. He was injured during the year and decided to retire following the 2002 season.
