Tyrese Haliburton’s revelation about how his little brother was called with a racial slur by a Milwaukee Bucks fan was the talk of the NBA world on Tuesday.
Now, the Cream City franchise has issued a statement with regards to the matter.
What Happened to Tyrese Haliburton’s Brother, Milwaukee Bucks?
Following the Indiana Pacers’ Game 2 win over the Bucks, Haliburton revealed to the media that his younger brother was on the receiving end of a racist remark from a Milwaukee fan.
According to Haliburton, his brother was called the N-word during Game 1 of the series this past Sunday. While it was clear that the Pacers star was uncomfortable discussing the matter, he noted that it’s important for them to share it so that it won’t happen again.
“My little brother in the stands the other day was called the N-word. It was important for us as a family to just address that, and that was important for us to talk about. Because that just didn’t sit right with anybody in our family, so it’s been important to have my family here right now. My little brother’s handling that the right way,” Haliburton explained.
What made things worse is that Haliburton is actually from Wisconsin and attended high school there. So for him and his family to receive such treatment–despite being rivals on the court–is disappointing for the state and the city.
Milwaukee Bucks Issues Statement on Tyrese Haliburton Incident
For what it’s worth, we reported earlier that the Milwaukee Bucks’ arena security was informed of the incident. However, the fan who allegedly said the racist remarks was not removed from the facility.
In line with that, the Bucks issued a statement and detailed their account of the incident. However, Haliburton’s family and those involved were not named in the statement.
“An arena guest services representative reported that during Sunday’s game a few guests were not sitting in their correct seats. The guest services representative asked the group to move one section over to their correct seats. Then, one of the individuals in the group claimed to the representative that a person sitting in front of him had used a derogatory term toward him. The accused person denied the accusation,” the Bucks spokesperson explained, per Dustin Dopirak of Indianapolis Star.
“The group moved to their correct seats and no further incident was reported. We take our fan environment extremely seriously and are committed to providing a safe and secure experience.”
Haliburton and the Pacers have yet to respond to the statement made by the Bucks. Nonetheless, it’s definitely something worth investigating considering the allegations being thrown and the seriousness of the issue. After all, if true, there is no room in the NBA for such hate.
