Green Bay Packers Greatest Player #78: Al Harris
For this edition of the greatest players in Packers history list, we have a rare addition of a player who was not drafted by Green Bay. In fact, Al Harris spent the first five years of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. However, his best seasons came with the Packers.
The Packers acquired Harris via trade in 2003. They sent a second round draft pick to the Eagles in exchange for the veteran cornerback and a fourth round pick. While Hharris was not a regular starter for the Eagles, he became one for Green Bay.
In total, Harris spent seven seasons with the Packers, making two Pro Bowls (2007 and 2008) and was a Second Team All Pro in 2007. Perhaps his most iconic moment as a Packer came in his first season with the team. In the Playoffs, former Packers backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck said, “We want the ball and we’re going to score,” after Seattle won the toss in overtime.
Harris then picked Hasselbeck off on the ensuing drive and returned it for a touchdown and the win:
Unquestionably this play. Al Harris was that guy https://t.co/918aKOukVZ pic.twitter.com/grPN5oN71E

Harris was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame along with Charles Woodson in 2020. He is now a coach on Mike McCarthy’s staff on the Dallas Cowboys.
