Green Bay Packers Greatest Player #83- Tim Harris
1986
Thus far, only one of the top-100 greatest players in Packers history had not played in or won a NFL title with Green Bay: #88 Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila. Our #83 player did, in fact, win a Super Bowl during his career, just not with Green Bay. Tim Harris, who spent five seasons of his career with the Packers, won Super Bowl XXIX with the San Francisco 49ers.
Before becoming a Super Bowl champion, though, he was a standout defensive end for the Packers. Green Bay drafted him in the fourth round (84th overall pick) of the 1986 NFL Draft.
Harris was an immediate contributor, racking up 8.0 sacks as a rookie and 7.0 more in his second season. 1988, though, was a year that saw his production explode. That season, he totaled 13.5 sacks and was named Second Team All Pro.
His best season with the Packers (and in his career) came in 1989 when he set the Packers’ single-season sack record with 19.5. That year, he was named First Team All Pro, went to the Pro Bowl, and finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting.
Harris’ last year with the Packers was 1990 when he 7.0 sacks while starting all 16 games. After leaving the Packers, Harris had just one more fully healthy season for the remaining five years of his career. That came in 1992 with the 49ers when he had 17.0 sacks.
Harris retired after the 1995 season and was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 2022.
