Aside from the Lambeau Leap, Gilbert Brown’s “Gravedigger” celebration may be the most recognizable big play celebration in Packers history. An icon and a fixture of Green Bay Packers history, Brown remains highly visible to fans with his Tailgate Party at Stadium View Bar and Grill before every Packers home game.

Brown, of course, played for the Packers his entire career. However, he was not drafted by the Packers. He was drafted by Minnesota Vikings in the third round (79th overall pick) of the 1993 NFL Draft. However, they waived him in their final roster cuts, and he was quickly scooped up by the Packers.

In 10 seasons with the Packers, Brown became one of the best nose tackles to ever put on the Green and Gold. He plugged up holes, ate double teams, and in many ways was the unsung hero on the dominant defensive line that helped the Packers win Super Bowl XXXI.

Brown had just 7.0 sacks in his 10 years with the Packers, but explains that since he played with Reggie White, Santana Dotson, and Sean Jones, there simply were not enough sacks to go around. He took on the double teams, though, that allowed them to get to opposing quarterbacks first.

Brown retired following the 2003 NFL season and was soon after inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame. Fans can hear his thoughts on the current Packers team and hear some amazing stories every Monday on The Earl Ingram Show and during the season here on Wisconsin Sports Heroics with The Graveyard Shift with Gilbert Brown.
