The Milwaukee Brewers are approaching a unique franchise milestone in which the next new player to make an appearance for them will be their 1,000th player to play in a game for them.  Prior to Tuesday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds they selected the contract of pitcher Kevin Herget.  If he appears in a game for the Crew he will be the player to break that milestone. The Milwaukee Brewers re-signed veteran pitcher Wade Miley this off-season.  After pitching beautifully for the Crew in 2023 (3.14 ERA across 23 starts and 120 inning pitched) he initially declined his half of a $10 MM option for the 2024 season and received a $1 MM buyout. Miley then elected to remain a Brewer by agreeing to a deal that has a $7.00 MM base salary, $1.5 MM buyout on a 2025 mutual option, 10-team limited no trade clause, pay incentive escalators, and a $1.0 MM re-assignment bonus if traded. The Milwaukee Brewers and their minor league affiliate teams seasons are all underway.  This was Opening Weekend for the Double-A levels and below whereas Triple-A has more than a weeks worth of games under their belt. The Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night by a score of 5-3.  Milwaukee won the first game the day before and Sunday will serve as the rubber match between the two organizations.  During the second game of the series there were a few firsts that occurred. The Milwaukee Brewers have placed starting pitcher Jakob Junis on the 15-day injured list.  Team officials indicate that this was done out of precaution.  However his next turn in the rotation is projected for Monday, April 8 and they will need to fill that void with someone else. Milwaukee Brewers rookie Oliver Dunn demolished his first career home run in the big leagues on Friday night against the Seattle Mariners.  The Brewers won this game in walk-off fashion by a score of 6-5 and Dunn’s 413 foot blast was one of three solo home runs from the Crew.  His blast off of Logan Gilbert will be something that he will remember forever and thankfully he was able to get the baseball back afterwards. The Milwaukee Brewers made a successful waiver claim on Friday, April 5 as they acquired Vladimir Gutierrez.  He is a pitcher that they are familiar with due to his history with the Cincinnati Reds.  Upon being claimed he was optioned to Triple-A Nashville. Vladimir Gutierrez was claimed off of waivers by the Milwaukee Brewers.   Entering 2024 Vladimir Gutierrez was pitching for the Miami Marlins.  He joined their organization on a minor league deal, was added to the 40-man roster to help with their pitching shortage, and then was designated for assignment after throwing three innings.
