It doesn’t come as a huge shock that Milwaukee Bucks veteran Patrick Beverley was involved in some sort of incident during their heartbreaking Game 6 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Thursday. After all, Pat Bev is the type that wears his heart on his sleeve and unfortunately for him, he just could not hold back his emotions during Milwaukee’s season-ending defeat.
Bucks head coach Doc Rivers has spoken out about Beverley’s behavior and the tenured shot-caller is pleased by the way the vet has reacted in the aftermath of his controversial moments.
Milwaukee Bucks News: Doc Rivers Spoke to Patrick Beverley Immediately After Indicents
According to Rivers, he did not waste any time confronting Beverley about the incident wherein the polarizing guard refused to take questions from an ESPN reporter because she wasn’t subscribed to her podcast. Rivers is glad that Beverley took the high road — at least after the incident took place — by apologizing for his actions:
“I did,” Rivers responded when asked if he had spoken to Beverley about the issue at hand, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I did right away because that’s not the Milwaukee way or the Bucks way. We’re better than that. Pat feels awful about that. He also understands emotionally — this is an emotional game and things happen — unfortunately, you’re judged immediately and he let the emotions get the better of him.
“So, I’m glad that he called, that didn’t come from us. We talked about things you just can’t do and so I’m glad that he called because that call came from him, not us telling him to make that call. That was good. I had not seen that interview. I just heard that that happened.”
To be fair, the reporter, Malinda Adams has accepted Beverley’s apology and has made it abundantly clear that she just hopes to move on from the untoward incident as soon as possible.
Doc Rivers Calls Out Patrick Beverley
That wasn’t all she wrote for Beverley in Game 6, though. He also had an attraction with a courtside fan wherein the Bucks vet ended up throwing the ball in the supporter’s direction:
Rivers revealed that he had also spoken to Beverley about the incident. While the one-time NBA champion coach understands where Pat Bev is coming from, Coach Doc remains adamant that Beverley should not have acted the way he did:
“So we talked about that and then the ball-throwing incident,” Rivers continued. “And he made the comment to me about what was being said back his way and I just said, ‘I get it, but we’re coaches and athletes, we’re the entertainers or whatever we are, sometimes they can be in the wrong, but you just can’t do those certain things.’ And he knows that as well.”
As Rivers implied, Beverley just has to be better than this.
