The Milwaukee Brewers made a successful waiver claim on Friday, April 5 as they acquired Vladimir Gutierrez. He is a pitcher that they are familiar with due to his history with the Cincinnati Reds. Upon being claimed he was optioned to Triple-A Nashville.

Entering 2024 Vladimir Gutierrez was pitching for the Miami Marlins. He joined their organization on a minor league deal, was added to the 40-man roster to help with their pitching shortage, and then was designated for assignment after throwing three innings.
Prior to joining the Marlins he had been a long time member of the Cincinnati Reds. They signed him out of Cuba and he made his MLB debut in 2021. He had 4.74 ERA across 22 starts that year, struggled a year later to a 7.61 ERA in 10 appearances and eventually underwent tommy john surgery and did not pitch in the big leagues in 2023.
