Earlier this offseason, the Tampa Bay Rays made a lot of players available via trade. At the time they were in a time crunch prior to the deadline to add prospects to the 40-man roster in order to protect them from the Rule 5 draft. Due to this, we explored the idea of a reunion with former Brewer J.P. Feyerisen. Since that time, it has been announced that Feyereisen has undergone shoulder surgery. He additionally has been designated for assignment and is expected to be traded.
Feyereisen missed most of 2022 with an injury. As mentioned, he now has undergone surgery on his shoulder. Per MLB trade rumors, this is to address his labrum and rotator cuff. He is expected to miss half of the 2022 season and was designated for assignment in order to make room for Zach Eflin on the 40-man roster.
During Eflin’s introductory press conference, general manager Peter Bendix indicated that he expects to find a trade partner for J.P. Feyereisen.

Could a Brewers reunion with J.P. Feyereisen actually happen?
Yes, a reunion is possible. However, if Feyereisen is going to join the Brewers through trade some additional moves would have to be made. This is due to the fact that the Brewers 40-man roster is currently filled. The best case scenario would be that Feyereisen clears waivers and signs a minor league deal with the Crew. This would allow him to rehab from surgery while not occupying a 40-man roster spot.
If the Brewers were to acquire Feyereisen via trade, he would have to remain on the 40-man roster until eligible to be placed on the injured list. Depending upon who they gave up in this hypothetical trade, the Brewers would then likely have to DFA one of their own in order to make room for Feyereisen.
Should a trade happen, Trevor Kelley is a person that could be DFA’d in order to make room for Feyereisen. Keston Hiura is also thought as a trade candidate as well, but it seems unlikely that the Rays would swap Hiura for Feyereisen.
It would be cool to J.P. Feyereisen reunite with the Brewers. Hopefully Matt Arnold can make that happen because when healthy he is a dominant pitcher.
