Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love will not practice during training camp until he receives a new contract. General manager Brian Gutekunst hopes to get a contract with him done soon. Love is in the final year of his deal.

He is with the team and attending meetings. The Green Bay Packers are not fining him because he did show up when he was supposed to. For now, the quarterbacks taking reps are Sean Clifford, Michael Pratt, and Jacob Eason. Eason is just an extra body until Jordan Love signs his contract.

This is a good move for Love to not practice until he gets his money. Why risk getting injured before getting the big bucks? He may receive a bigger contract than Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
CBS Sports Analysts Debate About Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love HoldOut

CBS Sports writers Cody Benjamin, Jordan Dajani, and Jared Dubin discussed if it was a big deal or no big deal for Love to be holding out of Packers camp until he receives his new contract. Benjamin said:
“No big deal. It’s not nothing that Jordan Love is skipping practice until he lands a long-term deal, but the fact he’s at team facilities, with Packers brass unofficially accepting of his stance, signals the two sides are still on track for a long-term partnership.”
There are a lot of times when players will not show up to training camp at all until they receive a new contract. Jordan Love loves being around his coaches and teammates. As for Danjani, he disagrees with Benjamin on this take. Danjani said:
“Big deal. This is a big deal because it would appear Love is on the cusp of becoming the highest-paid player in NFL history … after just one season as a starter! I expected Tua Tagovailoa and Dak Prescott to receive new contracts before Aaron Rodgers‘ former backup.”
He is not wrong for thinking that Tua Tagovailoa and Dak Prescott would have received contract extensions before Love. Surprisingly, Prescott hasn’t received one by now with the Dallas Cowboys, but Tagovailoa not receiving one isn’t surprising because of his injury history with the Miami Dolphins.
Dubin added:
“No big deal. It sounds like Love’s contract will be done in short order, and he’s participating in everything but practices.”
Love last season completed 64.2% of his passes for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He also rushed for 247 yards on 50 carries and four touchdowns, along with 4.9 yards per carry. It would be a surprise if a contract was not done soon.
