NFL rumors: Right now, there are a few big names that are still available in NFL free agency. One of them is four-time Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook, whose most recent contract with the Minnesota Vikings came to an end this past season. Cook has been one of the most coveted players in free agency this summer, and it now looks like he could be headed to the New York Jets to join Aaron Rodgers.
NFL Rumors: Dalvin Cook to Meet With Jets Over the Weekend
League insider Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reports that Cook is flying to New York on Thursday in order to meet with the Jets brass this weekend. While this could be nothing more than a preliminary visit, the fact that the 27-year-old is making the effort to fly to New York is indeed a noteworthy development.
The Jets are taking a significant step toward potentially recruiting Cook this summer just 24 hours after Aaron Rodgers agreed to restructure his contract. The four-time league MVP virtually gave back around $35 million to the Jets as they reworked his previous deal with the Green Bay Packers. This leaves New York with a significant amount of money left on their salary cap, which potentially, they could use on a guy like Dalvin Cook.
NFL Rumors: Dalvin Cook Denies Contract Offer From Dolphins
Another team that has been heavily linked to Cook is the Miami Dolphins. According to previous reports, the Dolphins had already submitted an offer for Cook, which something that the former Miami Central standout has recently denied:
“I didn’t… no, that wasn’t true. It’s ongoing with my agents and everybody,” he said (h/t Adam Wells of Bleacher Report). “They’re going through their whole negotiation thing, doing their thing, and I’m going to let them take care of that.”
Now Cook joining the Jets would be a slap on the face of the Dolphins. This adds yet another layer to this age-old rivalry, as both teams are now in an all-out race to sign one of the top running backs in the NFL today.
