The Green Bay Packers will have the 25th overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday night. Packers fans will soon find out who will be joining the team for next season and beyond. They have done well in the NFL Draft as of late and it is one of the reasons why they are trending in the right direction for next season and beyond.
It will be interesting to see what general manager Brian Gutekunst decides to do with these selections. Cornerbacks or offensive linemen is the route that the Green Bay Packers are going to take in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Who are three names to watch when the Packers are on the clock on Thursday night?
The Green Bay Packers are Mainly Eyeing on Cornerback/Safety Cooper DeJean From the Iowa Hawkeyes
The Packers are looking to draft a cornerback in this draft and one of the names that they love is Iowa Hawkeyes safety/cornerback Cooper DeJean. DeJean would bring a lot of versatility in the Green Bay Packers secondary because he can play both positions. He would be able to help out Xavier McKinney at safety and Jaire Alexander at cornerback.
One of the things he can also bring to the table for this football team is his punt return abilities. The Packers also need to get better on special teams and this is one of the ways to get better. DeJean had his season cut short at Iowa due to injuries, but he has been back on the practice field recently.
Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia
Another decision Green Bay is going to have to make is whether or not they need help on the offensive line immediately. If there is a tackle they like in the first round like Mims, then there is a chance that they could draft him. He played a lot of right tackle at Georgia, but can the Green Bay Packers possibly convert him to a left tackle?
That is something Green Bay Packers scouts will need to discuss. Amarius Mims has the talent to be successful at the next level. The Green Bay Packers need more help up front to give quarterback Jordan Love protection.
Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson
Wiggins is a true starting cornerback and this is a position that the Packers are looking for. Nate Wiggins would be a starting cornerback right away for the Green Bay Packers if selected in the first round. They did not address that position in the offseason during free agency.
Nate Wiggins could be one of a couple of cornerbacks that the Packers decide to take in the 2024 NFL Draft. He is someone who could work well opposite of Jaire Alexander.
