The Buffalo Bills received disappointing news that the team would be without running back Nyheim Hines for the 2023 season, and the rumors are starting to fly that there could be interest in Dalvin Cook. According to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Hines sustained a knee injury by getting hit on a jet ski by another rider. He could come back later in the season, but it appears Hines could miss the entire season.
While sitting stationary on a jet ski, Nyheim Hines was struck by another rider and sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Hines will require surgery and will miss the 2023 season. https://t.co/hR1VVD7BmW

According to Our Lads, James Cook and Damien Harris are the next two running backs on the depth chart. The Indianapolis Colts traded Hines to the Bills last season. The Bills starting running back from last season, Devin Singletary, signed with the Houston Texans in free agency.
Dalvin Cook to the Buffalo Bills?

Matthew Berry with NBC Sports thought Cook would be an excellent fit for the Bills earlier this offseason. After the news broke Monday morning that Hines would be out, other NFL writers are linking Cook to the Bills.
Mike Fisher with Sports Illustrated wrote about the possibility of Cook in a Bills uniform. Fisher thinks Cook’s asking price would be too high for the Bills. Fisher speculates Ezekiel Elliott could be the best fit for the Bills.
Bills fans think adding Cook is a possibility after Nyheim Hines’ injury
Bills fans took to X to discuss the Bills’ options after Hines’ injury. Some fans seem to think Cook would be an excellent fit for a team that wants to make a Super Bowl run in a crowded division.
“Nyheim Hines suffered a significant knee injury off-site and is expected to miss the entire 2023 season.”

Prior to the Nyheim Hines injury, I had no interest in the Bills signing Dalvin Cook.
But now that things have changed, I still have no interest in the Bills signing Dalvin Cook. pic.twitter.com/sJvcAQt7Cb

Can the Buffalo Bills sign Dalvin Cook?
The Bills would probably love to add Cook to their roster this season. Their main obstacle in trying to pursue Cook is money. The Bills have just over $5 million in cap space remaining for the season.
While the Bills will likely use part of that $5 million buffer to add an emergency replacement for Hines, they probably won’t want to spend it all on Cook. The Bills would have to clear up space to add Cook anyways. He wants $7-8 million this season.
