The Milwaukee Brewers have just started up a four-game series against the San Diego Padres. In their previous series, the Brewers collapsed in their first game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, but took a quality 6-3, and 2-0 win during the final two games. Milwaukee was down 6-4 heading into the top of the ninth inning. They were able to tie the game up at six, however, Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth hit a walk-off home run to give San Diego a 7-6 victory.
Now, the Brewers are 44-31, while the Padres are 39-40. Milwaukee has an opportunity to extend their lead over their division rivals in the NL Central, while San Diego looks to bounce back and become part of the NL Wild Card discussion once again. It wouldn’t come as a surprise if today’s game is just as competitive.
Milwaukee Brewers Disdainful 7-6 Loss at the Bottom of the Ninth to the Padres
Three batters into the game, Milwaukee’s left fielder Christian Yelich was able to bring in the first run of the game by hitting into a fielder’s choice. The Brewers had an opportunity to extend their lead with the bases loaded, but the Padres turned a huge double play to end the inning. During the bottom of the first, Padres third baseman Manny Machado smashed a three-run home run to right field to open up the game for San Diego. Just one batter later, Padres center fielder Jackson Merrill ripped a solo shot to right field making it a 4-1 ball game.
Brewers Make a Comeback but Lose in the Ninth
A few innings later during the top of the fifth, Brewers shortstop Willy Adames cut the deficit to one by hitting a two-run home run to straightaway center field. In the bottom half of the fifth, Padres right fielder Fernando Tatís Jr. crushed a solo homer to left field to give San Diego a two-run lead. During the bottom of the seventh inning, Padres designated hitter Jurickson Profar extended his team’s lead by lining an RBI double to left field.
Just a half inning later, Brewers second baseman Brice Turang hit an RBI single to left field. An inning later, Padres reliever Jeremiah Estrada threw a wild pitch while Rhys Hoskins was at the plate. The wild pitch allowed Christian Yelich to score home. Hoskins would tie the game up with a powerful RBI double that bounced off the left-field wall. San Diego Padres second baseman closed the game out during the bottom of the ninth when he demolished a solo shot to right field to give San Diego a walk-off victory at home.
