On Monday night, the Milwaukee Brewers offense collapsed during the first game of a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. After six innings of action, the Brewers led 6-0. A ninth-inning rally by the Angels made this a 6-3 ball game. With two outs and runners on first and second, Angels left fielder Taylor Ward flew out to right field, giving Milwaukee a huge win on the road.
The Brewers are now 43-20 after the win. Los Angeles drops to 29-44. Milwaukee should continue trying to win as many games as possible before the all-star break. Currently, two of their players are in line to start for the National League all-star team. Now, one final game will decide this series between the Brewers, and the Angels. It will be interesting to see if Milwaukee can continue their run on top of the NL Central division.
Milwaukee Brewers Quality 6-3 Win Against the Angels
Three batters into the game, Brewers left fielder Christian Yelich ripped his 200th career home run, and seventh on the season to right field. An inning later, Milwaukee’s right fielder Jackson Chourio was at the plate, after Angels pitcher Griffin Canning threw a wild pitch, Brewers center fielder Sal Frelick scored home, giving Milwaukee a 2-0 lead. Two innings later at the top of the fourth inning, Jackson Chourio knocked in a three-run inside-the-park home run, extending his team’s lead to 5-0.
Brewers Add a Run, Angels Ninth Inning Rally
Chourio hit a sacrifice fly an inning later, pushing Milwaukee’s lead to six. During the bottom of the ninth inning, Angels shortstop Zach Neto was at the plate, Brewers reliever Elieser Hernández threw a wild pitch which allowed catcher Logan O’Hoppe to score home, and give Los Angeles their first run of the ball game. Two batters later, Angels right fielder Jo Adell hit into a groundout which allowed Neto to score. In the next at-bat, Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel hit an RBI single to center field. Los Angeles could not keep the rally going and would lose the second game of this series 6-3.
Top Performers from the Brewers 6-3 Win
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Tobias Myers pitched six innings allowing just four hits, and two walks while striking out six batters during the win. Angels starting pitcher Griffin Canning pitched five innings allowing five runs on eight hits, and two walks while striking out four. Sal Frelick was the only Brewers batter to record a multi-hit game. Jackson Chourio had three RBIs in the win. Nolan Schanuel went three for four during the Angels’ loss.
Surprisingly enough, Brewers second baseman Brice Turang and shortstop Willy Adames went hitless in Milwaukee’s victory. Turang went hitless in five at-bats while Adames was hitless in three at-bats, with a walk. Milwaukee had just eight hits, while Los Angeles piled in nine, while also committing three errors.
