New Milwaukee Brewers pitcher DL Hall is a player that Matt Arnold and company are excited to have received in their trade with the Baltimore Orioles. Parting ways with Corbin Burnes and losing his production every fifth day is going to be difficult to replace, but some MLB experts have gone as far to say that Hall was the key in the deal and that can become a mainstay in their starting rotation for the next five to six years.
In addition to Hall the Brewers also received infielder Joey Ortiz. Ortiz already has the defensive skill set to play at the big league level, but he hasn’t had a chance to prove himself offensively yet. In the minor leagues he put up great numbers that included back to back seasons of at least 30 doubles and a .507 slugging percentage in 2023.
Who are some of the other Baltimore Orioles prospects the Milwaukee Brewers could have targeted?
No reports have come out as to if Milwaukee was pursuing any other prospects from the Orioles top ranked farm system, but they have a plethora of talent. Jackson Holiday is not only their top prospect but he is the top ranked player on most prospect ranking boards.
After Holiday they have outfielder Colton Cowser, outfielder Heston Kjerstad, infielder Coby Mayo, and catcher Samuel Basallo to round out their top five. Players like Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson have graduated from prospect status.

DL Hall believes that Joey Ortiz was overlooked in the Orioles farm system.
On Foul Territory TV DL Hall was asked about which Orioles prospect, outside of the well known names, that fans should keep an eye on. His response was the player that he was packaged in the Corbin Burnes trade with: Joey Ortiz.
I feel like one (prospect) that was definitely overlooked is Joey Ortiz. He is still a top 100 prospect and things like that but obviously Jackson Holiday and Gunner (Henderson) are two outstanding players that were kinda blocking Joey a little bit. I’m excited to see him play everyday and get the chance to watch him show everyone what he is really capable of at the big league level.

Where will Joey Ortiz fit in the Milwaukee Brewers roster?
Joey Ortiz is a defensive wizard that can handle, third base, second base, and shortstop. The position that the Brewers have in mind for him could change throughout the year based on what happens with shortstop Willy Adames. Adames is entering his final year of team control, has likely out-priced himself out of Milwaukee’s price range, and could potentially be traded anytime between now and July.

For Brewers fans hearing DL Hall’s thoughts on Joey Ortiz is very encouraging. He could have just been saying it because they were package together, but if you dive into Ortiz’s numbers, acknowledge that he has good power upside, and take into account his defensive versatility it’s easy to see why Hall mentioned him.
