The Milwaukee Brewers injured list is quite large and is seemingly growing every few days. Current pitchers that are down include J.B. Bukauskas, Taylor Clarke, DL Hall, Jakob Junis, Wade Miley, Devin Williams, and Brandon Woodruff. Position players injured include Garrett Mitchell, Jeferson Quero, and Christian Yelich.
Prior to Wednesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates manager Pat Murphy provided an update on where Christian Yelich is at in his progression, findings on player’s MRI results, and he commented on Robert Gasser’s dominant return to the mound in Triple-A.
What activities has Christian Yelich been doing and what hasn’t he done yet?
Christian Yelich last appeared in a game for the Brewers on April 12. He removed himself from that game after just one at-bat due to back pain. This is an injury that has caused him to miss time in the past and this current flare up is progressing slowly. Per Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel he ran on the field for the first time (April 12) but has not played catch or swung a bat yet.
Could Robert Gasser make a start for the Milwaukee Brewers in the near future?
Pat Murphy indicated during spring training that prospect Robert Gasser would more than likely make an impact at the big league level early into the season. Unfortunately some issues with his elbow slowed him down a bit and on Wednesday, April 12 he made his season debut in Triple-A. The southpaw threw 49 pitches over four innings, gave up four hits, walked one, struck out five, and his fastball velocity included pitches at 95 MPH. Jack Crouse of MLB.com indicated that when Murphy was asked about Gasser being ready for his big league call up he responded “I would think we’d want to see him go out there [at Triple-A] again, but nothing is out of the question if he’s 100% healthy. Why not?”

Wade Miley was placed on the IL with an elbow issue and underwent an MRI. Curt Hogg indicated that he flew to Cincinnati to have the pest perform and that the test results came back inconclusive. Additionally Hogg added that Hall is dealing with a tear in his knee at his medial collateral ligament (MCL). The belief is that this was contributing to his decreased velocity and had been present prior to tweaking his knee while fielding a bunt his last time out.
