On Thursday, the Milwaukee Brewers and the Baltimore Orioles shocked the baseball world with a blockbuster trade that saw perennial Cy Young Award contender Corbin Burnes go from the National League Central to the American League East. In return, the Brewers got left-handed pitcher DL Hall and infielder Joey Ortiz. They also secured a pick in the Competitive Balance Round A.
The Milwaukee Brewers are About to Find Out What They Have in DL Hall
Hall is an intriguing get for the Brewers from the trade, and for Jon Morosi of The MLB Network, he the future of the southpaw is what will truly define how much sense the trade makes for Milw.
“They also believe in DL Hall. He is really a key part of this deal. They believe that Hall is a starter. You alluded to his background a little bit earlier. He’s someone who has had success as a minor league starter, but at a major league level is more of an Andrew Miller type, multi-inning potential for the Orioles last year. The Brewers believe he can even be better than that. And so if you believe that DL Hall is going to be a mainstay in your rotation for the next five to six years, then this trade makes sense…This trade, from Milwaukee’s perspective, is about how good they believe DL Hall can be for a long period of time, and if they’re right, they did just fine tonight even though they just traded away someone who has won a Cy Young Award.”

Hall’s role with the Brewers remains unclear, but the Milwaukee Brewers can take their time in finding out just what exactly do they have in the 25-year-old hurler. In 29 total appearances in the big leagues, all with the Orioles, Hall, who broke into the big leagues in 2022, has a 4.36 ERA and a 2.44 FIP along with a 94 ERA+.
