The Green Bay Packers (1-0), played their season opener on Sunday against the Chicago Bears. They were able to win on the road by a score of 38-20. New starting quarterback Jordan Love had an impressive performance, going 15-27 for 425 yards, and three touchdown passes.
Two of those touchdown throws were to second-year wide receiver Romeo Doubs, who was listed as questionable for the Week 1 game in Chicago. He was able to play and certainly stepped up in the passing game in the absence of Christian Watson, who missed the first game due to a hamstring injury.
Green Bay Packers Injury News And Updates
Here is a breakdown of the Green Bay Packers Week 1 injury news and updates:
Running Back Aaron Jones
Aaron Jones scored on a run play and a 35-yard pass play from Jordan Love on Sunday. After the game, he felt as though he could have returned to play if he was needed, but was able to jog off the field. Head coach Matt Lafleur said they are still evaluating Jones’ injury and will see where he stands for Week 2 against the Falcons.
He got the offense going in the second half, that led to the Packers victory. Hopefully, he will be ready to go in the next game. The Green Bay Packers do need to get Jones more involved in the running game, and in the offense moving forward.
Wide Receiver Christian Watson
Second-year wide receiver Christian Watson did not play on Sunday due to a torn right hamstring injury. Watson does not see himself being on the injured reserve list anytime soon. He is a huge piece to the Green Bay Packers offense and is perhaps the team’s top wide receiver coming into this 2023 season.
Other receivers like Romeo Doubs, and Jayden Reed were able to step up in the passing game against the Chicago Bears in Week 1. Reed did return to the game against the Bears on Sunday, after leaving with (cramps). He did help the offense move down the field with only two receptions for 48 yards.
Last season, Christian Watson caught 41 passes for 611 yards and had seven total receiving touchdowns for the Green Packers.
Linebacker Quay Walker
On Sunday against the Chicago Bears, starting linebacker Quay Walker had a big pick-six against Justin Fields. Upon reaching the end zone, Walker was hit in the helmet by a Bears defender. After that spectacular interception and return, it was made known that Quay Walker was being evaluated for a concussion.
Head coach Matt Lafleur gave an update on Walker’s status on Monday, saying that he is in concussion protocol, and, unfortunately, could miss some time for the Green Bay Packers on defense. They could definitely use Quay Walker at the linebacker position to fill holes and make big plays for the Packers secondary.
In 2022, the starting linebacker had 121 tackles (75 solo), 1.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and seven pass deflections in 17 games last season.
It would be great to see these Green Bay Packers’ players come back sooner rather than later from their most recent injuries. They all play a vital role in the team’s success on the field.
