Green Bay Packers: A familiar pain was felt in Christian Watson’s right hamstring during the Packers’ last practice before Week 1.
Watson had not left the field (due to injury) during the entire offseason. During the weeks leading up to training camp, he flew to Southern California to work out with his new quarterback Jordan Love. Watson was healthy throughout the month of August. However, the Packers’ top receiver knows when he feels a hamstring pull, and thats exactly what he felt just days before the season opener.
During his rookie season last year, Watson missed three games due to a torn right hamstring. Now there has been a major update regarding his current injury moving forward.
Christian Watson Does NOT Expect The Green Bay Packers To Place Him On Injured Reserve

Watson, who was a last minute scratch against the Chicago Bears, is optimistic that he can return to the field very soon. Possibly even next week against the Atlanta Falcons:
“My hamstring things haven’t been the same thing every time,” Watson said. “It’s not like I’m dealing with the same thing over and over again.”
“It definitely hurt me a lot,” Watson said. “Obviously, the amount of work and preparation and time I put into this game this offseason, to not be able to go out in the first one is definitely heartbreaking for me. But I know it’s just part of the game. What happened, happened. I can’t control any of that now, so I’m just doing everything I can to get back out there. When I do, I’ll be ready to go.”
Watson said, “as far as I know,” injured reserve is not a consideration. He would miss the next two games before being eligible to return if the Packers placed him on injured reserve. When asked if he could have pushed through a late-season game with his hamstring injury, Watson would not speculate.
Getting Christian Watson back sooner rather than later will be huge for this offense. Without Watson, Jordan Love still threw for 245 yards and 3 touchdowns. Romeo Doubs stepped up in a big way catching two of those touchdowns.
With Watson back, the Packers have to be excited about their offensive potential. He recorded 41 passes for 611 yards and nine total touchdowns (seven receiving) last season. On Sunday, the Packers offense scored 31 points – not counting linebacker Quay Walker’s pick-6 defensive touchdown.
Scoring 31 points in your season opener without your best wide receiver on the field bodes well for what this offense can be going forward.
