The Green Bay Packers will have some big decisions to make this offseason. One of these is whether or not the team will re-sign wide receiver Allen Lazard. Now an unrestricted free agent, Lazard is expected to test the free agent market after making $3,986,000 last season. Lazard’s first contract with the Packers was a three-year $1.7 million deal that he signed with the Packers after going undrafted in 2018. In 2021, he made $675,000 on a one-year deal. Now Lazard is expected to get a massive pay raise in free agency.
Allen Lazard for the Green Bay Packers in 2022

Following the Green Bay Packers’ loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 18, Lazard made comments indicating that he had played his last game with the team. Green Bay made Lazard their wide receiver one last season following the departure of Davante Adams. Lazard responded with career highs in both receptions (60) and receiving yards (788). He also added six touchdown receptions after having eight in 2021.
Lazard proved to be a more reliable target for quarterback Aaron Rodgers last season. With rookies Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs taking the places of Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Lazard provided some semblance of familiarity and reliability in the Packers’ passing game. While the offense, as a whole, under-performed in 2022, Lazard was certainly one of the brighter aspects of it.
Salary Projections for Allen Lazard

Syndication Journal Sentinel
As mentioned earlier, Lazard is looking at a large pay raise in free agency. Two different salary projections have him making more than $11 million per season on his next contract. PFF’s Brad Spielberger projects Lazard to get a three-year deal worth $33 million (with $21.5 million guaranteed) in free agency. Spotrac, on the other hand, lists Lazard’s market value as over $12 million per season. The website’s market value calculator projects him to sign a three-year contract worth $37,528,000 ($12.5 million annually).
Current Wide Receivers Under Contract with the Packers
While Lazard said he may have played his last game for the Packers, it may not be out of the realm of possibility for the Packers to pursue him in free agency. Randall Cobb, too, is a free agent, meaning that the only wide receivers under contract for 2023 are:
- Christian Watson
- Romeo Doubs
- Samori Toure
- Jeff Cotton
- Bo Melton
There is very little doubt that Green Bay will sign a wide receiver (or two) in free agency, and may look at taking one (or two) in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Packers are currently over the cap, but are in a far better place this year than they were last year at this point. The fact of the matter is that if they want to be able to afford Lazard, they will be able to afford him. Aaron Rodgers has already said he would like Lazard back (if Rodgers himself decides to play in 2023); the question is whether or not Lazard wants to return.
