The basketball world was hit with some terrible news on Tuesday. This was after it was reported that Bronny James, the eldest son of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, suffered cardiac arrest during a USC practice session. The 18-year-old was rushed to the hospital unconscious where he now continues to recover from this shocking health scare.
Expert’s Shocking Report Puts Bronny James’ Career in Jeopardy

At this point, all we know is that Bronny James is in stable condition. He is no longer in the ICU, but there aren’t too many details that have been made public. LeBron and his wife, Savannah, have requested privacy as they navigate through this medical emergency.
All this uncertainty has inevitably led to questions about Bronny’s future. Dr. Brian Sutterer, who has a YouTube channel dedicated to educating his viewers on sports science, has come out with an alarming report regarding Bronny’s current situation. According to Sutterer, the risk is extremely high for the kid:
“Essentially when someone goes into cardiac arrest, their heart has stopped beating, and they’re essentially dead until someone is able to revive them or resucitate them,” Sutterer said. “So this is about as serious a situation as we can see in the world of sport.”
“… It’s not safe to let an athlete go back out and participate in sports after a cardiac arrest, especially if you don’t know yet what happened. … There are some causes of cardiac arrest that you find the exact cause, and it still isn’t necessarily safe to return to sports because the risk is so high of having another cardiac arrest and potentially dying.”
Sutterer then pointed out that the sports aspect actually needs to take a backseat here in that it should be an “afterthought.” Right now, LeBron James and the rest of the family should be more concerned with how this condition will affect Bronnt in his day-to-day life.
“If they don’t find an exact cause and you don’t really know what happened, and you have to have that discussion of what exactly are the risks of going back out there and playing,” Sutterer continued. “Extremely serious situation we’re dealing with, then legitimately something that could affect the rest of his career depending on what we discover and depending on what they have to do about it.”
Just Like the Jameses, Family Comes First for the Antetokounmpos as Well

It would probably be safe to say that LeBron James would choose to end his own career in an instant just to give his son a chance to play in the NBA. He still dreams of one day playing alongside his son (or sons?) on the same NBA team, but at this point, there’s no denying that Bronny’s health is the biggest priority.
Fortunately for them, Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brothers have had this same privilege. Not only did Giannis, Thanasis, and Kostas Antetokounmpo suit up for the Milwaukee Bucks at the same time, but they also won a championship together in 2021, being the first-ever trio of brothers to achieve this momentous feat in the history of the NBA.
LeBron is still hoping to make this type of history with his son, and given this recent unfortunate development, the entire basketball community has to be rooting for them.
