Amid all the James Harden trade drama, Joel Embiid reportedly removed his affiliation with the Philadelphia 76ers in his Twitter bio. This could mean nothing at all or this could also be the reigning MVP going on one of his infamous trolling sprees again. However, a lot of fans seem to believe that this could be an indication of Embiid also looking to move on from the Sixers.
Joel Embiid Takes His Talents to New Orleans
If Embiid does end up following in James Harden’s footsteps in demanding a trade away from Philly, then you can be sure that the Sixers will be demanding a record-breaking haul in a potential blockbuster exchange.
James Piercey of the NBA Analysis Network believes that the New Orleans Pelicans may have the necessary assets to make a deal work. Here’s the proposed trade scenario:
Philadelphia 76ers Receive: F Zion Williamson, 2025 First-Round Pick (MIL via NOP), 2029 First-Round Pick (Swap – NOP)
New Orleans Pelicans Receive: C Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid is the type of superstar who would instantly make any team a title contender. This is certainly going to be the case for him with the Pelicans if he decides to take his talents to New Orleans. He’ll be swapping places with Zion Williamson, but Embiid will still get to play alongside Brandon Ingram, CJ McCollum, and Jonas Valanciunas, giving him arguably an even more formidable supporting cast than he did in Philly.
The Pelicans will need to part ways with two first-round picks in the deal, but they will still have the likes of Trey Murphy III and Herb Jones, which will still give them enough upside-rich players for the future.
Sixers Reset Roster With New Cornerstone Superstar
The Pelicans, on the other hand, officially move on from The Process by parting ways with Embiid. They obviously wouldn’t green light this deal if it were up to them, but if Embiid demands a trade, then they might as well get the best trade package out there available.
This is where Zion Williamson comes into play. There’s no denying that injuries have been a major issue for the former No. 1 overall pick, but at the same time, let’s not forget that this dude is just 23. So long as he stays healthy, he can very well emerge as Philadelphia’s new cornerstone superstar alongside 22-year-old Tyrese Maxey, which will give them a longer championship window as opposed to Embiid, who will be 30 years old this coming season.
Zion is already a massive haul for them, but the two future first-round picks take this deal over the edge for the Sixers.
