The New Orleans Pelicans and the Milwaukee Bucks will begin NBA action this week for the 2024-2025 season. Both teams were rumored to make some trades this offseason. One of the biggest names on the market was Brook Lopez for the Bucks, but they never traded him.
He is entering the final year of his contract. There could be a point this NBA season when Milwaukee decides to trade or they could decide to keep him. He is 36 years old.
New Orleans Pelicans Showing Interest In Milwaukee Bucks Center Brook Lopez
Bleacher Report writer Grant Hughes wrote about three potential trade targets for each NBA team this season. One of the names he thinks the Pelicans should go after is Brook Lopez on the Bucks. Hughes thinks that the biggest need for the New Orleans Pelicans this season is center.
Grant Hughes said:
“The Turner thinking applies here as well. Lopez offers similar spacing but even better interior defense. At 36, Lopez may not have many quality years left. But he’s anchored championship defenses in the recent past and has missed just seven games over the last two years. If the Bucks fall apart, New Orleans should swoop in for Lopez.”
It is going to depend upon where the Pelicans and the Bucks are in the NBA Standings by the NBA trade deadline. There is a chance that Milwaukee could be buyers at the NBA trade deadline. New Orleans could be sellers because they are in a very tough Western Conference.
Other Centers
Hughes also mentioned that the Pelicans should go after Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers or Robert Williams III of the Portland Trail Blazers. Turner was always mentioned in trade rumors for Indiana last season. The Pacers never traded him and they were in the Eastern Conference Finals before getting swept by the Boston Celtics.
Turner, Lopez, Williams III, and other players are going to be mentioned in trade rumors during the 2024-2025 NBA season. For now, the Bucks won’t trade Lopez, but things can change.
