Now winners of their last three games and outscoring those opponents 117-16, Wisconsin football welcomes #3 Penn State to Camp Randall Saturday night. At this time about a month ago, it was hard to find even five wins on the Badgers schedule. They currently sit at 5-2 and only one win away from being bowl eligible. Like many fans, I feel more confident going into this game than the Alabama game. It will still be a difficult game. Kick off is 6:30 PM on NBC. Here is an early look at Penn State
The Wisconsin Football Defense Will Have a Tough Running Back Duo to Defend
When you look at the Penn State offense, the Nittany Lions have two solid dual threat running backs. Junior Nicholas Singleton is more of the pass catching back. He leads the team with 434 yards on only 63 carries with three touchdowns. Singleton has 10 receptions for 113 yards and three more scores.
The other running back is junior Kaytron Allen. He is more of the runner of the duo with 423 yards on 90 carries and three touchdowns. He only has three catches for 30 yards and another score. Allen and Singleton account for 10 of the 26 touchdowns for the Nittany Lions.
This will be the best set of backs this Wisconsin football defense has faced this year. They may not be the best true running backs, but both Singleton and Allen are threats all over the field. If the Badgers are not able to contain them, it could be a tough evening.
Not a Dominant Offense So Far
For being the number three team in the country, the offensive numbers for Penn State doesn’t stick out. They do average 34 points a game but have scored only 30 or more points once since September 21. I think a part of this is quarterback Drew Aller doesn’t really take chances when throwing the ball. He is smart with his location and only puts it in a place his receiver can get it.
However, that doesn’t mean this offense can’t be dangerous. They are capable and have the talent to blow a game open. I don’t think that will be the case Saturday night against this Wisconsin football team. It will be interesting to see how this Wisconsin football secondary defends and attacks Aller. It will be the best secondary they face all year.
Wisconsin Football Could be a Trap Game
Penn State is coming off a bye week so they should be fully rested. After the Badgers, Penn State hosts #4 Ohio State at home next week at 11 AM. In a way, it is a quick turnaround. The winner of Penn State and Ohio State likely as the best position to face Oregon in the Big Ten Championship game.
Wisconsin football, in a way, isn’t totally eliminated from the College Football Playoff, but they would have to run the table. They will get to a bowl game. I think Wisconsin football is playing with house money under the lights at home in homecoming week. The crowd and the atmosphere will be bigger than most home games in the last year. If I’m Penn State, I am not sleeping on this Wisconsin football team. A huge upset is a possibility here.
