The Green Bay Packers passed on a stud wide receiver during the 2022 NFL Draft. Of course hindsight is always 20/20. Nevertheless, the Packers drafted Christian Watson with the 34th overall pick in the second round. George Pickens was still available at that point, eventually being selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 52nd overall pick. However, it’s hard to say if the Packers drafting Pickens would have solved any of their current WR issues.
Packers with Pickens
Green Bay Packers fans are aware of the cosmic void that Davante Adams left when he signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. 2022 has been nothing short of abysmal at the WR spot for Green Bay. Injuries have plagued the Packers, not just at the wide receiver position. George Pickens has looked impressive in Pittsburgh. He had a magnificent game against the Jets hauling in six catches for 102 yards. In addition, Pickens has had some mind-boggling grabs that leave NFL fans in awe.

Pickens has 26 catches for 336 yards and one touchdown so far in 2022. He shares the field with fellow Steelers receivers Chase Claypool and Diontae Johnson, making Pickens a bit buried on their depth chart. I’d be curious to see what type of numbers Pickens could put up if he was the number one option. Would Green Bay have been better off with Pickens instead of Christian Watson?
George Pickens or Christian Watson?
It’s not completely fair at this point to say that George Pickens would have been the better pick for Green Bay. Christian Watson has been dealing with a hamstring injury this season. He’s only played in four games, posting seven catches for 52 yards and zero touchdowns. Only being a rookie, Watson still has plenty of time to prove himself as a worthy pick. There is no way of knowing how the Packers’ season would have unfolded if they selected Pickens over Watson. However, Packers fans are growing impatient with the wide receivers currently in Green Bay. Watson participated in practice on Wednesday and should be available for the game against the Bills on Sunday night. Can he step up and help the Packers get a much needed upset win?
