NFL: The Green Bay Packers are going into the 2023 season with a level of uncertainty they haven’t faced in quite some time. For the first time in over three decades someone not named Aaron Rodgers or Brett Favre will be under center come week one. Overall though, the Packers have been able to avoid the injury bug so far in 2023. Unfortunately, that can’t be said for one of the biggest rivals in the NFC North.
Minnesota Vikings Lose DL James Lynch For The Season (NFL)
Defensive lineman James Lynch suffered a torn ACL in the team’s practice on Thursday and will undergo surgery, putting him out for the entirety of the 2023 season.
Lynch was a fourth-round pick of the Vikings in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Baylor. He had worked himself into being a part of the team’s defensive line rotation over the past few seasons. He appeared in 15 games last season with two starts, and has played in 37 games over the course of his three seasons in Minnesota.
What Does This Mean For The Green Bay Packers When They Face The Minnesota Vikings?
During the course of his career, Lynch has appeared in 37 games and made three starts. The fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft has amassed 53 tackles, including four tackles for loss, two sacks, two quarterback hits and one fumble recovery over that span.
The loss of James Lynch won’t be a game changer for the Packers-Vikings rivalry, however, it will certainly impact their depth along the defensive side. The Packers will certainly be running the ball a lot more in 2023 and will benefit from any defensive line who may lack depth throughout the NFL season.
