Against the odds that many national media members gave the Milwaukee Brewers before the start of the 2024 season, the team finds themselves with the second-best record in baseball (14-6) through their first 20 games. Despite starting the regular season with 12 players who made their first Opening Day roster this year, the Brewers are playing fundamental baseball and, in large part due to their youth, look like they are having fun doing it.
While there are multiple players that are responsible for Milwaukee’s hot start, there are also multiple players that have struggled in various ways this year. In particular, it has been difficult for many of the team’s starting pitchers to remain healthy.

The Milwaukee Brewers Are Lacking Starting Pitching Depth
Corbin Burnes, of course, was traded to the Baltimore Orioles this past offseason for Joey Ortiz and DL Hall. Brandon Woodruff was re-signed by the Brewers after being non-tendered, but is out for the season as he recovers from shoulder surgery.
On top of losing two of their best starters before the season, Milwaukee just put Hall on IL with a sprained knee, lost Wade Miley for a bit at the beginning of the season with a shoulder injury, and lost Jakob Junis after just one brief start to the IL.
The hits just keep on coming as the Brewers announced yet another IL stint for a starting pitcher ahead of their series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Milwaukee Brewers Have Placed Wade Miley on IL Again
According to the Brewers’ Twitter (now X) account, starting pitcher Wade Miley is being put on IL again. To repace him in the starting rotation, the Brewers are calling up Tobias Myers from the Nashville Sounds.
In addition, Jake Bauers is being reinstated from the bereavement list and Andruw Monasterio is being sent back down to Triple-A.
LHP Wade Miley placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 19, with left elbow inflammation.
RHP Tobias Myers recalled from Triple-A Nashville.

In Miley’s last outing, he was struck in the knee by a line drive. Many thought that it would have been this instance that landed him on the IL. Instead, however, it is elbow inflammation.
Who Is New Milwaukee Brewers Starting Pitcher Tobias Myers
Tobias Myers first signed a minor league contract with the Brewers in November of 2022. In 2023, he spent time with Double-A and Triple-A, compiling a 10-5 record and 4.93 ERA. He had 175 strikeouts in just 140.2 innings pitched.
Prior to landing with the Brewers, however, Myers struggled everywhere he went. A former sixth round pick by the Baltimore Orioles, he has also had stops in the minor league systems of the San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, and Cleveland Guardians.
His lowest mark came in 2022 when he had a 1-15 record and 7.82 ERA while playing in the White Sox and Giants’ systems.
This year, however, Myers is off to a great start for the Nashville Sounds. He is currently 1-1 with a 1.62 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 16.2 innings pitched.
A right-handed pitcher, Myers throws mid-90s fastball, curveball, slider, and changeup.
