Ex-Milwaukee Bucks shooting guard JJ Redick could be shifting careers yet again soon. The 39-year-old has been able to establish himself as one of the fastest-rising personalities in sports broadcasting of late after securing a high-profile position with ESPN.
At this point, however, Redick appears on track to return to the NBA now that he has been linked to the head coaching vacancy with the Charlotte Hornets.
Former Milwaukee Bucks Stud JJ Redick Interviewing With Hornets
NBA guru Shams Charania broke the news on Monday evening as he reported that Redick is closing in on becoming Charlotte’s next head coach:
“The Charlotte Hornets are interviewing JJ Redick for their head coaching job, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. The 15-year NBA veteran and former Duke star has shown an interest in making a coaching jump in recent years,” Shams reported.
To be clear, Redick has not been confirmed as the Hornets’ new shot-caller. However, there’s no denying that he has taken a significant step in this direction now that he’s speaking with the Charlotte brass about potentially joining the squad.
Redick, who played 28 games for the Bucks during the 2012-13 season, currently has no coaching experience in the NBA. He retired in 2021 and has since made his name in the podcast scene with his highly popular program, The Old Man & the Three. He’s also collaborated with none other than LeBron James on a new podcast entitled Mind the Game.
Obviously, Redick will need to give up his podcast gigs if he agrees to take on the Hornets coaching job. He will also have to resign from his post for ESPN, where he is poised to join the network’s A-Team for this season’s NBA Finals coverage.
