NFC North News: The Minnesota Vikings opened their preseason on Thursday against the Seattle Seahawks. It wasn’t an ideal debut by any means for the Vikings, who suffered a disappointing 24-13 loss against their opponents.
Minnesota’s running backs did not look very impressive in their first outing, save for reserve RB Ty Chandler, who was one of the bright spots amid an uninspired performance from the Vikings offense. As it seems, the Vikings are now looking to add more depth to their running back rotation, and it could come in the form of former Cleveland Browns star Kareem Hunt.
NFC North News: Vikings Among Three Teams Kareem Hunt Has Visited
According to Andrew Krammer of the Star Tribune, Minnesota hosted Hunt on Friday, which happened to be less than 24 hours after their loss against the Seahawks. The Vikings seem to have some competition for Hunt, though, with the former Rookie of the Year also paying visits to the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts prior to his trip to Minnesota:
“Hunt arrived at TCO Performance Center in Eagan on Friday, continuing the 28-year-old’s tour around the league. Hunt visited the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday and the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday, leaving both franchises without an agreement,” Krammer wrote.
Hunt remains without a team at the moment after he failed to agree a new deal with the Browns earlier this summer. The former third-round pick’s best season in Cleveland arguably came during his rookie year when he emerged as the league’s leading rusher.
NFC North: Ty Chandler Impressed Vikings Coach Kevin O’Connell
Hunt could potentially join the Seahawks to form a partnership with Alexander Mattison. However, another running back has been making waves in Seattle as well. Coach O’Connell had nothing but high praise for Ty Chandler after his eye-opening performance against the Seahawks:
“[Chandler’s] ability to see it in live-game action,” O’Connell said Thursday night. “His vision, his burst, his finish, it all showed up. And then his ability out of the backfield, either on a screen to even getting 4 or 5 [yards] on a screen that wasn’t well executed, he’s making things happen.”
It’s very much possible that the Vikings are looking at Kareem Hunt as their priority should they decide to bring in a new RB. However, if that does not pan out, then Chandler is looking good as a Plan B right about now.
