New York Mets new president of baseball operations David Stearns is just a few days into his new job. A lot of tough decisions lay ahead of him but he now has gained more power as GM Billy Eppler elected to step down and give him a ‘clean slate’. What Billy Eppler failed to mention was that he was currently being investigated by Major League Baseball.

Billy Eppler provided the following statement regarding his resignation.
“I wanted David to have a clean slate and that meant me stepping down. I hope for nothing but the best for the entire Mets organization.”
Shortly after this rumors came out surrounding the potential of Billy Eppler remaining in a leadership role, but also that he was linked to an investigation from MLB. The investigation is said to be about improper use of the injured list.
New York Mets GM Billy Eppler is linked to a MLB investigation but stepped down in order to give David Stearns a ‘clean slate’.

Billy Eppler declined to comment on this situation, but CEO Steven Cohen provided the following statement.
“Billy Eppler led this team through a 101-win season and postseason berth last year and he will be missed. We accepted Billy’s resignation today as he decided it is in everyone’s best interest to fully hand over the leadership of Baseball Operations to David Stearns. On behalf of the Mets organization, we wish him all the best.”
