The Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays had quite the scuffle on Tuesday, April 30 as Abner Uribe and Josi Siri both threw punches. Prior to the brawl Freddy Peralta was ejected for allegedly hitting Siri intentionally on a 3-0 pitch. No warnings were provided by the umpire and outside of a tense ending to Monday night’s game there had been nothing within Tuesdays game to warrant an ejection without warning.
MLB hands out suspensions to players and manager in Milwaukee Brewers – Tampa Bay Rays brawl.

After the dust had settled Major League Baseball handed out suspensions to four people. From the Brewers side manager Pat Murphy received a two game suspension, Freddy Peralta five, and Abner Uribe six. Josi Siri of the Rays got a three game suspension. Murphy began serving his suspension the next day whereas Peralta and Uribe are appealing.
Abner Uribe was optioned to the minor leagues upon conclusion of the Tampa Bay Rays series.

Before being ejected on Tuesday night Uribe faced just one batter (Siri). Rickie Weeks, who found out about 20 minutes before the first pitch of Wednesday’s finale that he would be the manager, then had Uribe pitch again in which he threw one inning and 25 pitches. Following the game Uribe was optioned to the minor leagues.
Can Abner Uribe serve his MLB suspension in the minor leagues?

Suspensions handed out at the big league level cannot be served in the minor leagues. He can still appeal for a suspension of fewer games, but it will be contingent upon when he returns to the big leagues. Uribe has a 6.91 ERA this season, in large part due to a recent five earned run outing, so this demotion could be two fold in allowing him some time to work on his craft as well as sending a message to a young player that there are alternative ways to safely express emotions.
