MLB News: Milwaukee Brewers fans are all too familiar with Yadier Molina as he wore a St. Louis Cardinals uniform for 19 seasons. The highly regarded catcher put his cleats away upon the conclusion of the 2022 season, but now officially will be returning.
Milwaukee Brewers fans have not seen the last of Yadier Molina as he is returning to the St. Louis Cardinals coaching staff (MLB News).
Katie Woo, who covers the Cardinals for The Athletic, reported the news regarding Yadier Molina officially returning. This had been rumored to be in the works for a while, but his ability to work as a full time coach or not due to family priorities was one obstacle.
John Mozeliak, who is the president of baseball operations for St. Louis, commented that Yadier Molina’s deal is not finalized, but he will for sure be joining the Cardinals coaching staff in 2024. His coaching duties will not require him to be their full time.
Yadier Molina, who has expressed a strong desire to return to a coaching role, also has experience as a manager in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League as well as during the World Baseball Classic. By getting a foot in the door now he theoretically could work his way up and takeover for Oliver Marmol once his time as skipper comes to an end.
All of this sets up a potential reality where in the future the Milwaukee Brewers have Rickie Weeks as their manager and the St. Louis Cardinals Yaider Molina. Rickie Weeks, who entered the league one year prior to Yadier Molina, was given the title of associate manager to Pat Murphy this off-season.
