The Milwaukee Brewers have lost a few valuable members over the last calendar year who were previously in their organization. Manager Craig Counsell joined the division rival Chicago Cubs, Corbin Burnes was traded to the Baltimore Orioles, and Adrian Houser was dealt to the New York Mets.
Additionally, from a starting pitcher standpoint, Brandon Woodruff won’t return in 2024 due to undergoing shoulder surgery and in total they currently have seven pitchers on their injured list. That includes Wade Miley in which he recently announced that he will undergo season ending Tommy John surgery.
Who did the Milwaukee Brewers all bring in this off-season to serve as starting pitchers?

This off-season the Brewers did some adding as they re-signed Colin Rea in free agency, took a flier on Joe Ross, signed Jakob Junis, and added DL Hall during the Burnes trade. Junis and Hall are both currently among the injured and the depth of Milwaukee’s organizational pitching is being tested greatly. One recent interesting development regarding their off-season has come from a recent report from Bob Nightengale as he mentioned that they were finalists for one international star starting pitcher.
The Milwaukee Brewers were finalists for international star and left-handed starting pitcher Shota Imanaga.

After Yoshinobu Yamamoto signed a massive contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers the Chicago Cubs ended up signing Shota Imanaga to a four year, $53 million contract. There are a lot of other details regarding his contract, but Bob Nightengale revealed the Brewers were one of the teams in the running for his services.
The finalists, along with the Cubs, for his services: the Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers and Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox actually had a chance to match the Cubs’ offer after originally offering a two-year, $26 million contract, according to the Boston Globe, but declined.

Will the Milwaukee Brewers add more starting pitchers?

Hindsight is 20/20 and right now it would be nice if the Brewers had Shota Imanaga, but they don’t. With that being said their current state, as described by GM Matt Arnold, is a team that is being held together by duct tape. He also said that once they all get healthy it will be like having a mini trade deadline. Based off these comments it doesn’t sound like they plan on signing anyone or making any mid-season trades, but it is possible that they add from within. Robert Gasser is one prospect who could debut very soon.
