Fans of the Milwaukee Brewers know former St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina quite well. He logged 19 total seasons in St. Louis and then retired after the 2022 season. According to one report the now 41 year old could soon return to the Red Birds and wear their jersey once again.
Milwaukee Brewers nemesis Yadier Molina has interest in returning to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Cardinals beat reporter, Katie Woo reported this news. She indicated that Yadier Molina has expressed a desire to return to St. Louis as a coach and that the feeling is mutual from management. An exact role is not known, but if this comes to fruition the coaching position right now is thought to be an everyday job.
A season ago the Cardinals had one of the smallest coaching staffs in the league. Adding one additional coach won’t change that, but someone of Yadier Molina’s stature could be impactful. This becomes even more true when you consider the turmoil surrounding Willson Contreras and the pitching staff during his first year with the team.
From a coaching standpoint Yadier Molina does have experience managing in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League as well as during the World Baseball Classic. His job wouldn’t be to immediately serve as the Cardinals skipper, but that’s not to say it couldn’t happen in the future.
It will be interesting to see if Yadier Molina joins the Cardinals in 2024 as a member of their coaching staff or not.
