MLB Umpires take a lot of heat day in and day out. The vast majority of the time arguments from opposing teams and fans deal with the strike zone, but check swings, safe vs out, fair vs foul, pitch clock violations, and interference are all things they are responsible for as well. During the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees game on Sunday, April 28 a missed interference call played a significant role in the outcome.
Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees was not called for interference during this double play ball against the Milwaukee Brewers.

In the sixth inning Aaron Judge was on first base, slid into second on what appeared to be a routine double play ball, and the baseball hit the top of his hand. Replay showed that while he was sliding his hand, that had the protective sliding mitten on it, extended up past his head. This play is not able to be reviewed, but the umpires did get together live and came to a conclusion that no interference occurred. As a result the Yankees went on to score seven runs in that inning and blew the game wide open.

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames comments on the missed interference call.

Brewers shortstop Willy Adames was the player who was attempting to turn the double play for Milwaukee when his throw hit Aaron Judge’s hand. Post game Adames said he has never seen that happen before and that the missed call drastically changed the outcome of the game. However he did acknowledge that everybody messes up at points and that’s how it goes.
“They admitted they messed up. We mess up sometimes. That’s how it goes.”
