The Milwaukee Brewers have given former player Rickie Weeks a big promotion within their organization. He initially was hired in February of 2022 and had been serving in a player development role. In 2024 he will be in the dugout serving as the associate manager to Pat Murphy.

On Thursday morning both Pat Murphy and Rickie Weeks were introduced to the media and their new roles were made official. It was a very entertaining press conference and personalities were on full display. This also gave Rickie Weeks the time to open up and speak about his new role.

The Brewers giving Rickie Weeks the title of associate manager is a big deal. They easily could have given him a bench coach title, but instead this establishes that he is going to have a major impact in shaping and molding the mindset and culture of the team.
When asked about it Rickie Weeks spoke about Pat Murphy and how much learning he has to do.
“What I will say about Murph, because I didn’t get a chance to speak on it yet, I know you see the fluff and the laughing and the joking and stuff like that. But that’s a baseball man right there. I have a lot to learn from him. I have a lot of questions for him. But at the same time I think there’s a good working environment ahead. I’m ready for it.”
“The biggest thing for me is the love and discipline. That’s what I do with my kids, too. I believe in that and he believes in that too, obviously. Good players want to be coached and that’s how you got to go about doing it. There’s no sugarcoating. There’s no fluff. There’s just genuinely being there for them and genuinely wanting to help.”

In the near future Pat Murphy and Rickie intend to sit down and get on the same page for the 2024 season. They should be a fun duo to watch over the next few seasons with plenty of transparency as well as entertainment.
