In 2018 the Milwaukee Brewers were getting production from first base via Jesus Aguilar and Eric Thames. This left Ji Man Choi on the outside looking in. Eventually the club ended up trading away Choi to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for Brad Miller and cash.
For the next four seasons Choi remained with the Rays before being traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in November of 2022 for right-handed pitcher Jack Hartman. This year he has dealt with an Achilles injury and has been limited to just 73 at-bats before the Pirates traded him at the 2023 deadline.

Former Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Ji Man Choi has been traded from the Pittsburgh Pirates to the San Diego Padres (MLB News).
Multiple reports have indicated that heading to San Diego along with Ji Man Choi is left-handed pitcher Rich Hill. Heading to Pittsburgh in the deal is Jackson Wolf, who was San Diego’s 16th-ranked prospect, first baseman Alfonso Rivas, and 17-year-old Dominican outfielder Estuar Suero.
Despite being major spenders in free agency the Padres could use an upgrade offensively. Jake Cronenworth, also a left-handed batter, has been below average this year and has a 90 OPS+. Choi should provide a boost in their lineup and is also a power threat.
At the time of this acquisition the Padres were three games under .500 with a 52-55 record. They are 8.5 games back in the division and 5 games behind in the Wild Card race.

Considering how big of a joke the Brewers are. I’m really surprised they didn’t trade off their top pitchers and or hitters. All 2 of the decent hitters.
