The Milwaukee Bucks possess two picks in the coming 2024 NBA Draft and it’s not yet known whether they’ll use them to acquire additional stars or role players. If they do use their picks, the front office may do well by selecting Duke’s Kyle Filipowski.
Before Filipowski committed to Duke, the big man was a five-star recruit who played for several high school programs, such as Minisink Valley, Fordham Preparatory School, and Wilbraham and Monson Academy. He then started playing for the Blue Devils in 2022.
It didn’t take long before Filipowski started to make an impact for Duke. In the 36 games he played during his freshman campaign, the rookie posted 15.1 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. Although his campaign projected him to declare for the 2023 NBA Draft, he chose to return for another run as a sophomore.
During his second year playing for Duke, Filipowski improved his numbers to 16.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.5 blocks per contest. He also became more efficient by connecting 50 percent from the field and almost 35 percent from deep on 3.1 attempts per game.
Milwaukee Bucks Projected To Draft Duke Star Kyle Filipowski in 2024 NBA Mock Draft
Even though the Bucks face several challenges in the offseason, the upcoming draft offers a chance to improve their roster. This can be done if the front office goes for Filipowski, as projected in an article by Jonathan Wasserman for Bleacher Report.
“His draft stock mostly feels unchanged for the past few months, though pre-draft risers could push him down boards. Shooting range, post skill, improved finishing and passing and defensive mobility create versatility that should lock Filipowski into the late-lottery/mid-first round.
While he doesn’t project as a top option like he was at Duke, he checks the right complementary boxes to make a quick transition to a supporting stretch 4 or 5 role,” Wasserman wrote.
In the event Milwaukee chooses Filipowski, they may potentially develop him into a serviceable backup for either All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo or big man Brook Lopez. With his size, athleticism, and a potential to develop as a shooter, the Bucks may gain a potent weapon for their championship quest.
It remains to be seen who Milwaukee will choose in the upcoming draft. If they do select Filipowski, there’s a chance they may end up with more than they bargained for.
