Former Milwaukee Brewers prospect Keston Hiura has signed a contract to join his second organization of the 2024 season. The ninth overall selection in the 2017 draft signed a minor league deal with the Detroit Tigers last off-season, but he was released in early June. Hiura now has signed with an American League west team.
Keston Hiura left the Milwaukee Brewers last off-season and signed with the Detroit Tigers.
After being removed from the Brewers 40-man roster in the spring of 2023 Hiura found himself unable to reject a minor league assignment due to that being the first instance of him being outrighted. Despite excelling offensively he ended up spending the entire season in the minor leagues and elected free agency at season’s end. He ended up signing a minor league deal with the Detroit Tigers in the middle of February.
The Detroit Tigers released Keston Hiura in early June 2024.
49 games into the 2024 season Keston Hiura was released by the Tigers. He was slashing .232/.312/.401 with six home runs and 21 RBI’s for the Toledo Mudhens (Triple-A affiliate of the Tigers). His strikeout rate was at 28%.
Keston Hiura has signed a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Angels.
Per Jeff Fletcher, a Los Angeles Angels beat reporter, Keston Hiura has signed a minor league deal with the Angels. He will report to Triple-A. Taylor Blake Ward also reported that the Angels had real interest in Hiura during the 2017 MLB draft but Hiura was selected by the Brewers a pick ahead of them.
