Kyrie Irving’s recent decision about his shoe line with Anta certainly made waves recently. Among those who reacted to the Dallas Mavericks guard’s move was Milwaukee Bucks All-Star Damian Lillard.

Back in December of 2022, Nike dropped Irving as one of their endorsers due to his stance against vaccination and other controversial beliefs. A few months later, Anta signed the one-time NBA champion to a five-year deal to endorse their products. At the same time, Irving was also named Chief Creative Officer and was given the freedom to recruit other people for Anta.

Almost a year after and Irving made his first official signing. Turns out, the Dallas star signed Drederick Irving, making him the first ever father to be signed up by an athlete to a shoe deal. Moreover, Shams Charania said that the elder Irving’s shoe will be released on September of this year.

Drederick started his basketball career at Boston University and moved to Australia to play as a professional there. For his part, the younger Irving started his NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers and won a ring there. Subsequently, he spent time playing for the Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, and currently with the Dallas Mavericks.

Irving’s decision proved to be a popular one among athletes and fans. Among those who were elated were Milwaukee Bucks starter Damian Lillard, as seen in a screenshot of his post on social media.

Unlike Lillard and the Bucks, Irving has gone far into the playoffs this year with Luka Doncic leading the Mavericks’ charge. They are scheduled to face Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics in a best-of-seven series to determine this year’s champion.

Without a doubt, Irving’s move to sign his father will surely resonate with fans and players alike. Hopefully, this will pave the way for more remarkable ideas to be done in the world of sports.
