Right now, Bobby Portis and the Milwaukee Bucks are on the outside looking in. This is after the Bucks suffered a heartbreaking opening-round loss to the Indiana Pacers, who incidentally, have made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals.
For their part, there’s no denying that Giannis Antetokounmpo’s injury played a pivotal role in Milwaukee’s short-lived postseason run. This has Portis questioning the path any team has to take toward winning an NBA title, as well as how luck plays an undeniably crucial part in the same.
Milwaukee Bucks News: Bobby Portis’ Polarizing Question
Portis took to X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday to pose an intriguing question about what it takes to win a championship in the NBA. The Bucks veteran seems to have implied that it’s not always the best team that goes on and wins a title:
Does the best team win the championship every year or does the team w the most luck win?
— Bobby BP Portis (@BPortistime) May 26, 2024
In case you forgot, Portis once lifted the Larry O’Brien trophy with the Bucks not too long ago. As such, this man knows what it takes to be able to go all the way in this league. This is exactly why his inquiry holds a lot of value here.
Based on Milwaukee’s own path to a championship in 2021, it appears to be a combination of both talent and luck. The Bucks were without a doubt one of the strongest contenders to the crown that season, but there’s also no denying that they had luck on their side as well.
It looks like this is going to be the case again this season with injuries, in particular, once again becoming a crucial deciding factor in the outcome of several playoff series — as has been the case every single season.
