The NBA trade deadline has ended, and the Milwaukee Bucks’ only acquisition was Patrick Beverley from the Philadelphia 76ers. But if general manager Jon Horst is to be believed, this isn’t the only move the front office will make before the regular season ends.
Beverley’s addition to the Bucks’ roster was a move designed to improve the team’s defense, particularly on the perimeter. Just last season, Milwaukee’s defense was ranked fourth among 30 teams in the league, mainly due to the presence of Jrue Holiday. This season, though, the team’s defensive rating is in the bottom half of the NBA.
The arrival of Beverley has already yielded results, as noted by the team’s improved communication in a recent win over the Charlotte Hornets. But as effective as the gritty point guard has been for the Bucks recently, the front office isn’t done yet when it comes to updating the roster for the upcoming playoffs.
Milwaukee Bucks General Manager Jon Horst Betting on the Buyout Market to Improve Roster
With the buyout market in full swing, the Bucks hope to snag some guys who can help the team contend for another ring. Horst shares the plan in an article written by Eric Nehm for The Athletic:
“That’s part of the bet is that we think we will have a chance to do that. I think we will, there have been a couple of players that have been released already that I think could potentially be helpful. There may be some others here in the next few days. It usually takes a couple days to really understand what will or won’t be available. But that’s the bet that we made that we think we’ll be able to add to our team with some impact here,” Horst said.
Just recently, the Los Angeles Lakers signed Spencer Dinwiddie from the buyout market, making it one of the first dominoes to fall in that regard. It remains to be seen what move the Bucks will make, especially with guys like Danilo Galliinari, Victor Oladipo, and Killian Hayes still left on the board.
