Milwaukee Bucks stars Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, and Khris Middleton have all sounded off on their upcoming matchup against the New York Knicks on Tuesday night. It’s a massive game for the Bucks as they look to take down the New York Knicks for a spot in the semifinals of the NBA’s In-Season Tournament.
Bobby Portis, however, is taking a bit of a different approach.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Bobby Portis Gets Real on IST
It’s not that Portis is playing down the In-Season Tournament or prize money reserved for the tourney champs. However, the veteran made it abundantly clear that the Bucks remain focused on a different trophy:
“We talk about it all the time, the money that’s on the line,” Portis said (h/t Fox Sports). “It’ll mean a lot. … But the end award is what we’re all shooting for, getting to the Finals, getting back there, drilling it and being the best we can be. This is nice but all our minds are focused on what can happen in June.”
Each player on the winning team will pocket a cool $500,000 once they bag the championship. That’s obviously no small amount, especially for players who aren’t in the pay grade of the likes of Giannis and Dame.
Portis is just keeping it real here, though. Winning the IST is a nice accolade for Milwaukee. However, the fact of the matter is that they are still locked in on the NBA championship at the end of the season.
