The Milwaukee Brewers and Devin Williams have agreed to a year contract that buys out his remaining years of team/control arbitration. It was initially reported that Williams filed for a $7.3 million 2024 salary and the Brewers countered at $6.65. Shortly after those numbers were leaked a deal was announced in which it has a maximum value of $18.75 million over the next two years
In 2024 Devin Williams base salary will be $7.25 million. There is a club option for 2025 worth $10.5 million, $1 million in escalators, and a 250k buyout. This two year contract means that both sides will not have to worry about the ugliness and publicity surrounding an arbitration hearing. It does not extend Williams time in Milwaukee for he still will be a free agent after the 2025 season.

Yeah, but they still have to agree on a contract or go to arbitration, which gets messy.

Rather than deal with arbitration BS the Brewers bought out Devin Williams remaining 2 arbitration years for a max total value of $18.75 MM
This move saves them money and the bad publicity of hearings all while actually not extending Williams time in MKE. Still a FA after 2025

Wonderful news. Although I disagree with the vast majority of these types of narratives, the “Corbin Burnes doesn’t want to be here, he’s playing worse because of it” line of thinking among Brewer fans in 2023 was exhausting. I’ll cherish the peace of mind that this will provide. https://t.co/THYGH7k9Cz
