The Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago White Sox may be able to help one another out. On one hand Milwaukee is off to a great start and looking like playoff contenders, but they have been weathering a storm of numerous injuries to their starting pitching staff that lacked proven talent depth to begin with. Further south Chicago is not playing great baseball and they likely will be trading away assets as the summer goes along.
Two key Milwaukee Brewers starting pitchers are out for the entire 2024 season.
Trading Corbin Burnes during the off-season was a business decision that the Brewers were bound to make at some point. Unfortunately the trade came at a time where their co-ace Brandon Woodruff had also undergone surgery and won’t pitch in 2024 as a result. This bumped Freddy Peralta up to their top starting pitcher. Wade Miley was brought back in to provide a veteran presence but he now will undergo Tommy John surgery in early May. Other starters from the rotation that are currently injured include DL Hall and Jakob Junis.
Young talent is coming up through the Milwaukee Brewers farm system.
This year the Brewers have already selected the contract of Tobias Myers to help their big league team out. He has been solid in his first few starts, but additional help may be on the way. Robert Gasser will likely be the next pitching prospect called up and has the highest probability of impacting the Brewers this year. Jacob Misiorowski may need additional grooming in the minor leagues as he focuses on command and Carlos Rodriguez has struggled in Triple-A this year.
Milwaukee Brewers – Chicago White Sox fan trade proposal sends two starting pitchers to the Crew.
On X a fan of the Brewers proposed a trade. The premise of the proposal is that Milwaukee gets immediate big league starting pitching help and in return they give up one current MLB ready player and another who is knocking on the door.
Brewers receive:
- RHP Erick Fedde
- RHP Chris Flexen
White Sox receive:
- OF Joey Wiemer
- RHP Carlos Rodriguez
Here’s a trade idea whose time has come….#Brewers get
Erick Fedde
Chris Flexen#WhiteSox get
Joey Wiemer
Carlos F RodriguezI think it’s maybe too much which is whyI think it could maybe possibly work?

From a team control standpoint this trade would give the Brewers two years of Erik Fedde ($7.50 million base salary each year) and one year of Chris Flexen. Chicago would get Joey Wiemer in pre-arbitration and minor league pitcher Carlos Rodriguez.
Performance wise Fedde has been incredible through his first six starts. He spent the 2023 season playing overseas and revamped his pitch arsenal when compared to his time with the Washington Nationals. Flexen has gone through some tough seasons in the past, but currently has a 4.58 ERA across 29 innings pitched. Wiemer has been a bench player for the Brewers this year and after several outstanding minor league seasons Rodriguez has struggled to begin this year (8.13 ERA across 27 innings pitched).
In conclusion the idea behind Milwaukee giving up some young controllable pieces for immediate help in their starting rotation is the right idea, but Erick Fedde is arguably the White Sox greatest trade piece right now. It may take a different assortment of players to get a deal like this done and I personally don’t foresee Brewers GM Matt Arnold matching a proposal involving more significant prospects.
